National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
Graphic Design Intern | May 2021 – July 2021
Yeehaw! Now, I know what you might be thinking: "What can you possibly learn from working at a museum?" Well, partner, you're in for a surprise! From the bustling Chuck Wagon Festival to the prestigious Prix de West and the Western Heritage Awards, my plate was overflowing with projects. This was my first real showdown with Brand Standards post-college, and let's just say my hide got tanned a few times. But boy, did I walk away with some invaluable life lessons tucked under my belt!
Landing in the saddle of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum was a reality check for me. They might be all about the wild west, but their graphic design was mighty distinguished and (to my horror at the time) it was all required to be done in Indesign. It's probably important to mention here that I managed skirt by in college at this point with an iPad and a dream. The twist of it all? What used to be intimidating became my daily toolkit for future projects. Every day, I tip my hat to the Cowboy Museum for saving my caboose! And let me tell you, wrangling brand standards, printing standards, AND network organization for the first time was a whole new rodeo.
